The Art of Making Music Fun Again

8trk is now using Twitter to recommend songs in place of the much enjoyed Favorite 8.  Yea, it’s a little late but better late than never!  Now you can get learn or be reminded of a few song good songs, daily!

Phreamp

8trk is excited to announce that, in association with an amazing web developer John Kleijn, we have launched a new PHP Web application framework, named “Phreamp”.

Phreamp is an open source (GPLed) technology focused on creating the structure needed to create a reliable, enterprise grade application quickly, without losing flexibility.  It is, in fact, the very backend framework that 8trk is using for 8trk.com

The current state of the project is pre-alpha, though the Controller and View layers are already fully functional. The Data Layer is currently being developed.

We are currently looking for additional volunteers to flesh out the functionality of Phreamp. Have a look at the join page

Be sure to check out phreamp.org.

8trk Design Updates

Dear family, friends, readers and people who have stumbled here by accident,

If you haven’t yet, please take notice of 8trk’s new homepage.  It’s reflective of our new design and a preview of what’s under the hood.  A special thanks to our friends over at FluidDesign.

Rick Rubin and Josh Groban?

This should be VERY interesting.  Rick Rubin, who was named producer of the year at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, is best known for founding Def Jam Records and his work with acts like the Beastie Boys, Slayer, Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers. For his next project, he’s producing…wait for it… Josh Groban. Yes, that Josh Groban, the classical crossover singer/songwriter, David Foster protégé, the “Noel” guy. [HitFix]

The Preview

This past Wednesday, Feb 11th, 8trk allowed a handful of family, friends and potential investors to try out the technology live.  Although the preview was very limited, on purpose, it was exciting to see people adding and editing and bookmarking artists.  The general impression seems to be that 8trk is easy to use and will be alot more fun to play around with as the content and features grow.

The preview will lead us right into the prrivate alpha so if you haven’t signed up yet to be a part, please do.  If you have, you will soon have your turn to 8trk!

New Lilly Allen

And the digital pirates said, “Let there be a new Lilly Allen album”.

And it was.  And it was good.

DJ Hero?

DJ Hero, that’s right folks, is coming.  According to comments by Activision Blizzard chief Bobby Kotick, “We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs.

Wow, I have to say I was baselessly uninterested in the whole Guitar Hero/Rock Band thing until recently.  I now see the brilliance behind it because it introduces a unique experience around music which is what’s needed to profit from music anymore.

I have the Guitar Hero band set now - it’s awesome!  I wonder what my DJ friends will do with this.  My advie is don’t let me get good at this game and take their gigs - LOL.
